چکیده

The energy required to crush rocks is proportional to the amount of new surface area that is created; hence, a very important percentage of the energy consumed to produce construction aggregates is spent in producing non-commercial fines. Data gathered during visits to quarries, an extensive survey and laboratory experiments are used to explore the role of mineralogy and fracture mode in fines production during the crushing of single aggregates and aggregates within granular packs. Results show that particle-level loading conditions determine the failure mode, resulting particle shape and fines generation. Point loading (both single particles and grains in loose packings) produces clean fractures and a small percentage of fines. In choked operations, high inter-particle coordination controls particle-level loading conditions, causesmicro-fractures on new aggregate faces and generates a large amount of fines. The generation of fines increases when shear is imposed during crushing. Aggregates produced in current crushing operations show the effects of multiple loading conditions and fracture modes. Results support the producers' empirical observations that the desired cubicity of aggregates is obtained at the expense of increased fines generation when standard equipment is used. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. Estimation of fines generated by blasting – applications for the mining and quarrying industries

estimate the proportion of fines generated during the blasting process. The proposed framework is based on the combination of two Rosin-Rammler based distribution functions to model the full range of fragments expected to be produced during this process. This particular approach, which has been successfully applied for a number of years by the Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC)...

Crushing analysis of the industrial cage mill and the laboratory jaw crusher

Many research studies have been conducted on the liberation of locked minerals using a crusher and comparing this device with the other devices. This paper reviews the liberation of middle coal by different methods of crushing force. In the Tabas coal washing plant, particles of 0.5-50 mm size are processed through the heavy media method (using 3 Tri-flo separators) and particles of 0-0.5 mm si...

Recommendations for Minimizing Poor Quality Coarse Aggregate in Asphalt Pavements

The Texas Department of Transportation has experienced problems with inconsistent performance of the coarse aggregate fraction of hotmix asphalt pavements. This project was initiated to address problems associated with variations in hotmix coarse aggregate quality. More specifically, the researchers wanted to identify simple tests that can be performed at the aggregate quarries to assess the du...

Pelletisation Behavior of Fluxed Iron Ore Pellets of Varying Basicities Made with Waste Fines

The present study deals with the utilization of fines generated from comminution process (crushing, grinding and screening) of the Run of Mines into value added products i.e. fluxed iron ore pellets. The study comprises to understand the physical and mechanical behavior of five distinguished chemical compositions of green and dried iron ore pellets with respect to a typical Mini Blast furnace (...

Geochemistry, Thermal Evolution, and Cryovolcanism on Ceres with a Muddy Ice Mantle

Introduction: Interpretation of data acquired at Ceres by the Dawn spacecraft demands a model for the evolution of Ceres’ structure and composition to date. In a recent paper [1], we presented such a model, consistent with pre-Dawn observations and preliminary data returned by Dawn. Here, we describe this model, compare its physico-chemical outcomes to reported observations, and outline possibl...
